The first quarter of the year is great for reflecting on and refreshing your business and personal goals, but are you embracing and including the human element as part of that vision?
There’s nothing wrong with aspiring to BIG business goals like six figures or moving into new markets. While these ambitions are exciting and great for business growth, you’re also in danger of rushing towards the next shiny milestone without focusing on what makes your business special—YOU!
Are you forgetting to include the human element in your business?
Whether your business is product or service-based, its success is entwined with the well-being, confidence, and clarity of yourself and your sales teams. So, the first thing to think about is…
Are you building a business that aligns with your values and taps into your UHP® – Unique Human Proposition? Or are you sacrificing the human aspect of your business to hit targets and sales projections or build something flashy?
What is UHP®?
Think of UHP® as a shift from focusing on what you sell to how and why you sell it.
There is no other YOU on the planet, so this is your greatest asset! Each team member has their own UHP®, making them untapped resources in your business success.
Your UHP® includes many elements, including your values, strengths, language, stories, and ‘isms’ (the things that make you memorable—your quirks!).
How can you refresh your business goals holistically?
Let’s start with your mindset. Instead of focusing only on financial outcomes or finding the next quick fix, try mixing in goals that support you personally and professionally. Here’s how:
- Reflect on the wins and challenges – what worked and what didn’t work last year? Did you overextend yourself, or did you disconnect? Use your answers to tweak your goals, so they feel more human-centered.
- Set SMART goals – this is a great acronym to follow. Your goals should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. However, to make sure you’re looking at your goals from a UHP® perspective, you might say, “I’m going to increase my revenue by 20% while nurturing my client relationships and building a better work-life balance.”
- Prioritise inner work – build time in your schedule for personal development, whether that’s journaling, meditating, or working with a coach.
Embracing the human element.
As you continue to review and refine your business over the months ahead, make space for yourself. Any business thrives on the relationships it builds with customers, collaborators, suppliers, and staff, but this also means it (you) needs to be present, grounded, and authentic.
Invest in your team if you have one. Give them space to communicate, learn, and grow.
Acknowledge your needs by creating downtime, appreciate and celebrate how far you’ve come, even if you’re not where you want to be yet and stay connected to your values.
‘Your values are part of what makes you unique. They are what make you the ‘true you’. What’s most interesting is that we all know what our values are because they have been built since we were tiny.
Think of a time when you had great success. A time when you really excelled yourself and were very proud of what you had achieved. What were you feeling? What was going on? What values were you honouring then?’ – Taken from my book, Live It Love It Sell It.
Your core values are why you do what you do, so trust them!
Moving your business forward
This year, challenge yourself to balance ambition with authenticity. Yes, a six-figure goal might be within reach, but achieving it will feel more meaningful if you do it by being your true self.
Social media marketing companies are all talking about the latest trends, and ‘authentic storytelling’ and ‘human-centred content’ are taking up the top spot. The hard sales tactics no longer work in this new digital world. Customers want to connect, they want to be heard and understood, and they want to work with or buy from companies that align with their own values.
Investing in 1:1 coaching can be the spark that helps you transform your business. When I work with my clients, we work on their UHP®, build confidence, and design their business sales strategies to help them thrive—not just as entrepreneurs or team leaders but as people.
Are you ready to refresh your business goals and embrace the human element in your business?
The Sales Day Trip is a new way for us to work together for a whole day. We cover lots of things in a day, and it will be life-changing for anyone who doesn’t like or know how to sell. This training day shares one simple message: ‘Sales is human, and you are unique’. Throughout the day, I’ll get the very best out of your existing life skills.
“Since reading Jules’ book my life has changed direction. I subsequently did a road sales trip day with her where we developed my business idea, Connect -Clarify – Create. She has been an inspiration to me! Her positivity, compassion and understanding approach are a joy to work with. Although Sales is her thing she is generous with all of her vast knowledge and experience of business and life. I feel honoured to work with Jules.” Jean Fleming

“Jules is a fantastic coach, approaching sales with energy and empathy. A trusted acquaintance introduced me to Jules after hearing I was looking for help developing my LinkedIn messaging. To say that working with Jules has been an inspiration is an understatement rather than an exaggeration! She’s helped me feel more comfortable ‘selling’ and our work together has impacted all aspects of my company’s communications.” Richard Banyard, Op-Tec Systems
