The internet is a noisy place, and if you’ve ever found yourself scrolling endlessly for advice on selling or how to stop feeling so daunted by sales, then I understand. The good news is, you don’t need to look any further than the Live It Love It Sell It blog for powerful tips.
I’ve already shared a wealth of practical, no-fluff advice designed to help you feel more confident, banish the mindset gremlins, feel more aligned, and be more effective in your sales approach. So, I’ve pulled together some of the most impactful insights from my most popular posts to give you a place to start (or reset).
Here are five powerful reminders to help you sell in a way that feels natural, human, and effective.
Marketing Gets You Seen. Sales Gets You Chosen.
One of the biggest shifts we’re seeing right now is the close collaboration between marketing and sales.
With around 70% of buying decisions happening before a conversation even begins, your content is already doing part of the selling for you.
“When we avoid the sales and selling elements of business, we start to hide behind marketing because it feels safer. Unfortunately, no amount of marketing can replace the UHP® (Unique Human Proposition) of your business – YOU!”
Marketing warms people up. Sales moves them forward!
If you’re showing up consistently but not converting, it might not be a visibility problem. You probably aren’t making the transition into a sales conversation. In this blog post, we talk about how sales is the most human skill you have and how to use it.
“When you understand your UHP®, sales stop feeling icky because you’re not trying to convince someone. You’re helping them see themselves more clearly. Listening to your audience allows you to share relatable stories, empathise with their worries, and offer the perfect solution.”

Using Motivation to Sell Without Being Salesy
Selling doesn’t have to feel pushy or uncomfortable. The most effective sales approach uses motivation, encouragement, and connection.
One of the most powerful shifts you can make is to focus less on convincing and more on supporting. When you speak to your customer’s goals, challenges, and aspirations, you naturally move into a space where you’re guiding rather than pushing.
“When you focus on helping someone move forward, rather than pushing them to buy, the conversation changes completely.”
That’s where the magic happens. Instead of leading with features or offers, you highlight what’s possible for the customer, reflect on their frustrations or goals, and share stories to inspire them.
Using motivation to sell shows your customer that you understand them, and that what you’re offering is a natural next step, not a forced decision. When people feel supported, they don’t need to be sold to. They’re already buying!

Stories Sell. Facts Support.
You can share all the data, features, and credentials in the world, but people connect with the person behind the brand. Your stories help your customers see themselves in your journey, understand your perspective, and build an emotional connection with your work.
Storytelling is a big part of Live It Love It Sell It, from the community I built using stories of my dad running his shop, to the coaching clients I serve by sharing my own experiences.
My blog posts, keynote talks, and coaching sessions are packed with stories. You might have already heard about my time on Dragon’s Den, or my TEDx talk, or perhaps you’ve followed my more recent adventure, where I sold up and moved to Lincoln for a fresh start.
Did you know that 63% of people remember stories, only 5% remember stats and 68% say that brand stories influenced their purchasing decisions?
Focusing entirely on sales metrics means losing sight of the human element. Sales isn’t just about numbers – it’s about building relationships with your target audience and nurturing existing clients. Every sale is a conversation, a connection between you and your customer.

Why Long-Term Business Goals Beat Quick Fixes
It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that success should happen quickly. A new strategy, a fresh offer, or a burst of visibility can feel like the thing that will suddenly change everything.
You only need to scroll through your feed and be bombarded with messages of overnight success, life and business hacks, and six-figure launches, but this way of working comes at a cost – burnout, unsustainable growth, and a disconnect from your long-term stability. Plus, you may be doing things that aren’t aligned with your values.
Deciding to sell my home, move to a different county, and leave the city I have lived in for 25 years, has forced me to review my life, slow down, and think about what truly matters for me and my business. Having run my business for nine years now, I have worked harder but smarter than in previous years.
I’ve always maintained a consistent message about what I offer and how I work, trying various ‘products’ where some worked, and others didn’t. I was aware that burnout was real, and so I had less desire for quick wins and more for building a solid base.
When I planned my move, I was in a position to maintain my business on my terms, doing the work I love when I wanted to work. I could only do this because of the way I had built my business since starting in 2017.
When you shift your mindset to long-term thinking, you:
- Make more intentional decisions
- Stop chasing every new trend or tactic
- Build trust and visibility steadily (with a consistent message)
- Create a business that actually supports your life
Slowing down doesn’t mean giving up! It means you are choosing how you live and grow and what’s right for you, your family, and your business.

Be Human First. Always.
In a world of automation, noise, AI, and constant content, the businesses that stand out are the ones that feel real.
What makes your business unique? You do! When you understand your UHP® (Unique Human Proposition), you can attract the right customers and opportunities.
That means being honest about challenges, sharing your personality, and having genuine conversations instead of scripted ones. Selling doesn’t need to feel pushy or uncomfortable.
When you focus on human connection first, sales become a natural next step.
Your Unique Human Proposition defines the strengths, values, and uniqueness of yourself and your team. These are your greatest assets in sales, and establishing your personal brand based on that uniqueness is the first step toward sales success. People buy people, and when you understand what your UHP really looks like, you will provide an unparalleled sales experience to your customers.

Having worked in sales for over 40 years, I’ve seen many changes in business strategy and the tools we use to deliver it. Certain things in sales remain evergreen – the need for us to connect as humans, the need for us to trust as humans, and the fact that nothing in the near future can realistically replace human conversation.
Ask any AI if they understand emotions and see what they say!
You understand! Don’t stop adding in a great big dollop of human to everything you do in your business – it will be worth it.
